Dry Dock Green
Boston, Massachusetts
In April 1998, a drydock in Boston Harbor broke free of its mooring and landed on the East Boston waterfront, causing much dismay. "Drydock Green" turns this (as one newspaper put it) "hulking, rusty, eyesore, shouldn't-be-where-it-is- drydock", into an asset: communal, outdoor recreation space. The project won a Boston Society of Architects Unbuilt Design Award.
